Meet Barnard’s Eloise Cilliers.
Eloise is an Associate in the Commercial Litigation department at Barnard, specialising in Insolvency and Credit Disputes. She completed her BCom Law and LLB Degrees at the North West University where she served on multiple student council committees.
“I remember my mom and dad always saying I needed to study law because I was ‘never wrong’ in family debates,” she laughs. Eloise’s colleagues describe her as bubbly, caring, motivated and accomplished. And apparently, she is also always willing to engage in discussions about food!

- Eloise leads with the Relator strength. She takes immense pleasure in her close relationships with others, and finds deep satisfaction in working with a team to achieve a common goal.
- Eloise also has the Focus strength. This speaks to her ability to take direction, follow through and make the corrections necessary to stay on track. She is adept at analysing before taking action.
- The Activator strength enables Eloise to make things happen by turning thoughts into action. She’d much rather get things done now, instead of simply talking about getting things done.
- Eloise also has the Arranger strength. This means that she can organise, but she also has a flexibility that complements this ability. She likes to determine how all pieces and resources can be arranged for maximum productivity.
- The last of Eloise’s top 5 strengths is the Developer strength. She is able to recognise and cultivate the potential in others and derives satisfaction from evidence of progress.
Eloise’s greatest desire is to be a successful lawyer and mom to her one-year-old son, Luka. And, in addition to creating a ‘home’ for Luka and her partner, Kevin, Eloise also wants to save up and travel the world with them. “I think that to explore other cultures and landmarks and enjoy these experiences with your loved ones is what life is all about,” she exclaims. “For now, I enjoy going to markets and taking Luka on adventures – as I call them – to animal parks and playgrounds. We are quite busy over the weekends exploring new places, restaurants and markets.”
Whether Eloise is impressing her clients with her professional abilities, making a home for her young family, dreaming of great explorations, or just venturing ‘there and back’ to see how far it is, she is a living, breathing example of the adage, “Life takes you to unexpected places. Love brings you home.”
