“Dazzling jacaranda petals covered the sidewalk like a carpet of amethyst velvet.  It always amazes me how the trees sit so quietly, unnoticed all spring, until one day it feels as if every single one throughout the city bursts with blossoms at the exact same second.” – Kim Fay

Spring 2022 heralds a number of exciting changes for Barnard, including new branding to match a stunning new head office location in Brooklyn, Pretoria – and the announcement of two new directors to help drive Barnard closer to the vision of Changing Law for Business in a Changing World.

Location, Location, Location!

The new offices at 266 Bronkhorst Street – in the prestigious Pretoria suburb of Nieuw Muckleneuk – have been professionally finished and adapted to suit the needs of arguably, one of the country’s fastest-growing commercial and litigation practices. And new meeting facilities are also equipped to accommodate a leading-edge Mediation service.

Looking Good !

Barnard also proudly unveiled a new corporate look and colour. It is no coincidence that the suburb we have just moved to – indeed the city we proudly call home – is seasonally covered in the bright purples of our beloved Jacaranda trees.

The colour change not only reflects the energy and passion of our firm but in technical logo design and branding terms, purple evokes – just like Brooklyn – the idea of style, wisdom, creativity, honour and pride.

Our growth, foundation and security are still held within the now-familiar Barnard tree icon – a symbol that was, notably, originally hand drawn and is now registered as a trademark.

Most Innovative Firm in Africa

Since its establishment in 1998, Barnard has grown to become one of the largest independent Tshwane-based law firms and our attorneys advise listed and private companies, individuals, and local and foreign organisations across South Africa and internationally. Recently, the firm was confirmed as The Most Innovative Law Firm in Africa by the prestigious Africa Legal Awards.

In recognising the phenomenal growth of the firm, Law.com also welcome Barnard as a new entrant to the illustrious list of Top 50 Law Firms in Africa.

Leading from the Front

Barnard is delighted to announce the appointment of two new Directors to the firm, Sally Tlokana and George Herbst.

George is a specialist litigation attorney. He handles various transactional matters including contract drafting and vetting, insurance-specific litigation, personal injury litigation, commercial liability claims, and complex recovery claims. No matter the industry, innovators have the ability to “see things differently” from the rest of us, and they’re also superb communicators of their vision and wisdom. Barnard’s new Director, George Herbst is the very epitome of a legal innovator and joins the firm’s visionary, Douw Breed, in mapping out the expansion of Barnard internationally.

Sally is a specialist litigation attorney, with a special focus on transactional matters including contract drafting and vetting, insurance-specific litigation, personal injury litigation, commercial liability claims, complex recovery claims, and commercial arbitration matters. Sally is part of a litigation team that is working to radically change the face of specialist legal offerings in South Africa. There are no pageants, parades or names on walls. Just quiet, intentional steps toward building a practice that dovetails the needs of insurers and financial service providers.

Congratulations George and Sally!
